Saturday Sketch #6

Happy Saturday to everyone. It's been a hectic Saturday for me with Winter Sports for the kids started up again...I love it and hate it all at the same time!

Anyway, onto the sketch this week. This is one that can be interpreted in so many different ways. I'm really keen to see what everyone does with it.

Here is the sketch.

And here is what I did with it.

Sorry the colours are a bit dull...I tried scanning this layout instead of taking a photo, but it hasn't really given me the right colours and it chopped the edge off. Oh well, you get the idea!

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

Have a good rest of the weekend.

saturday sketch #5

Its been one of those weeks where I've had a few ideas wafting around in ether and lot of other things jostling for front place in my mind, so my plans of having a new sketch (swapping with Amy, who at this moment is helping her sister get married, and having a wonderful time).  So I didn't get a new sketch done, but instead I share with you this old favourite, originally torn from a magazine and converted to a sketch by Amy (so really, she has already played along today) some time ago, as OF COURSE I can't find the original magazine page.  Its one that you can follow "as is" or interpret as you see fit.
Template 35 Sharons challengeand here is what I did with it....remembering that I am pretty literal! (and have taken a very fast and dodgy photograph, so sorry Nicole! :-)

this wasn't done digitally at all, just put the text in a word document and printed, then stuck down my photos and paper (I think I used a brilliant square punch for this)

hope that you can play along, and as always please link up below, and leave a comment, as otherwise we don't know you've left a link.....

Saturday sketch (no. 4)

Hi all!  Here's a sketch challenge for you. After a rainy RAINY week here in Sydney, today is spectacular, so all Sydney readers, get out there and enjoy it!! Scrapping can wait (til tonight, anyway). Saturday night raging consists of cardstock, a computer, and some patterned paper!

So today's sketch can use as many photos as you like really. You can fill those top three coloured blocks with photos, or just fill two of them, and fill the other with paper, or as I did, I got 5 small photos into the two horizontal blocks.

I also have a 12 x 12 version for you if that is your preference. The main vertical photo would be good as a 5 x 7 or even a 6 x 8 in the 12 x 12 size.  The main photo is approx 4 x 6 in the 8.5x11" layout.

My take on the sketch is below. Every year we have a gingerbread making Sunday afternoon in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and every year it get scrapped. I like scrapping traditions, and seeing how big the children get in basically the same photos from year to year. If you've known me or my scrapping for several years now, you may well be sick of all my ginger bread pages!

If you give the sketch a go, post a link to your blog or flicker page so we can see!!

And here's a 'gingerbread tradition' layout from 4 years ago. Similar colours, smallerr kids! (but slightly different sketch!)

Magazine Inspiration

This week challenge comes directly from the pages of Australian Home Beautiful. It is one of my favourite magazines for both home decorating ideas AND scrapping inspiration.

Here is this week challenge. There is lots here to love about the design and the home wares :)

Now I must make a confession. I have not scrapped a new page with this design yet. (I pulled everything out of the kids draws in our shared study...and I can't see the floor or the desk top. I will need to clean before I can scrap...sigh.) I did, however look through some old pages and was happy to discover some pages that follow this layout. I guess this is why I was drawn to this page initially...seems it's one of my "go-to" designs.

This is pretty close to the original, just added a title & flipped the photo placement. Now I thought twice about sharing a page with me in a bikini but seeing as there is nothing of the body to see I figured why not...after all aren't we always saying we don't scrap enough of ourselves! And I have learned to embrace my freckles :)

Another oldie but again based around the three blocks.
I know I have said it before...simple is timeless!!

And a question for you...see the words "last forever" on the magazine page. I am dying to know what font that is. I love it at the moment and can find ones close but not the exact one...anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Finally...another give-away :)
One of out talented readers will be offering a great give-away next week.
Pop back next week and keep a look out for more details.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with week.
Cheers Di

Saturday Sketch

Hello everyone, and welcome to this fine Saturday. My turn to give you a sketch to get you scrapping this weekend.

As usual, its very simple. Remembering that not every square or space has to be filled with something, as I will show you below.  This started off with a template from CZ, but as I tweaked and twiddled to suit my needs, I realised that end result was pretty much NOTHING like the starting point!
cowboys sketchyep, pretty simple and straight forward, and could well lend itself to some colour blocking (and o/t I could really some pf those pinterest colour boards for inspiration when I do a sketch, couldn't I?!) Anyhow, this is what I ended up with.....
 cowboys
I've been trying to put into practise some of the ideas from Ten Tips for Better Type, alas PSE and I don't seem to be on the same page at the moment! Does anyone else have issues with their software suddenly doing, or NOT doing something, all by itself? Right now, mine has decided that it won't listen to my arrow keys when I want to nudge something along just a wee bit

I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! (don't forget to linky up, or even just leave a comment with the link to your page!)

Saturday Sketch # 2

Hi Everyone,

Sorry its a little late in the day...we had a busy morning!

I hope everyone enjoyed last weeks sketch. I've just linked mine up from last week as I was a bit slack on taking the photo! You can go here to see it.

Anyway, onto this week's sketch. This is a "go to" layout I use often. It can be switched around a lot in terms of where you put your photo, journalling and patterned paper. There are many options! Hope you like it...I'm really keen to see what everyone comes up with! Please link up below and don't forget to leave a comment for us so that we know you have linked up. All the SAG Girls are keen to see what everyone comes up with.

So here is the sketch...

And here is my layout based on the sketch. A little story about my close friends and our daughters. I've used a new Stampin' Up! patterned paper in this layout that i love. I'm not really into purple but I love this paper and I used a matching brad from the Stampin' Up! collection.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Don't forget to link up your layouts!

Saturday Sketch | One ....

Hi SAG readers!
It's been a long time since I've had something up over here, but with the first week of school out of the way, it's time to scrap.

This year we are introducing the Saturday Sketch; like our previous challenges we will have a link set up so that you can share your pages, but, unlike the challenges only the sketch setter will post a page as an example. This way you can visit us, we can visit you and it takes a bit of pressure off everyone - it's all about scrapping because we want to, not because we have to or because we have a deadline!

So, I'm first; probably the most sketch challenged of the lot - I buy those templates for a reason! I always view a sketch as a springboard, sure, it can be used literally but don't let the shapes in front of you confine your creativity, there is always scope to add or subtract and flip and rotate.

12x12 is making a come back for me, I've decided to go fully digital this year as a trial - I can get 12x12 photobooks printed easily, far simpler than single pages and I am enjoying the extra space.

I know I just said that the sketch can be interpreted in a variety of ways, but for this one I have gone literal. If you are interested in a couple of details, especially if you are taking Cathy Zielske's Type class, I have used Century Gothic as my journaling font, set at 12pt and a 24pt leading. The title is a font called MonoAlphabet that was possibly downloaded from dafont, but I can't be sure as I have had it for a while.

Feel free to link up if you decide to use the sketch, we love seeing all of your pages and don't forget to leave a comment on Sharon's post to be entered in the draw for the giveaway.

'love it' (layout & sketch)

A new layout for you.

Firstly, here is the photo, of my children, and their cousins on their first swim of Spring - always a moment to be captured for us beach loving types!!

And here it is scrapped.

A super simple page that uses one 6 x 8 photograph and a few strips of cardstock.  The background is the colour that-can-do-no-wrong and that would be 'whirlpool' and there is a strip of patterned paper thrown in for good measure and it is by 'My Mind's Eye' (the 'Penny Lane - Feeling Groovy' line). Seriously, this pp is so good! I have used it, little strip at a time and it somehow goes with everything!!  That's a cheap Officeworks date stamp up here in the corner, best $6.88 I ever spent.

As usual, because my three children are in the photo, I scrapped a page for each of them. It was basically a production line affair, except I changed the little embellishment in the circle on each of them. This was one of the variations.... a pale blue flower with a brad.

AND I have a sketch for you so you can swing this layout straight into action, if you like it that is!
All you need is a favourite photo that is special enough to stand alone, and make a statement. And it doesn't even have to be a 'great' photo, just a photo that is special to you, aesthetically great or otherwise!!
